“Lakuma 118” by Markus Krug is a unique handcrafted wall sculpture made of cardboard. Each piece of packaging cardboard with a white backing was manually cut, vertically layered, and glued until the defined sculptural form was created. The object was then rotated 90°, and a hanging system was precisely recessed into the back.

A minimalist, tactile artwork, perfect for modern living and working spaces as well as collections of contemporary sculptures.

Markus Krug

Markus Krug, born in Singen in 1965, lives and works in Munich.

For more than 20 years, Markus Krug has been investigating structural concepts in consecutive series. Planning, clarity, execution: sculptures, objects and installations are created using various techniques; they resemble each other and could be connected like a kind of matrix.
Markus Krug creates homogeneous, reduced works from a wide variety of materials: paper, cardboard, styrofoam or polystyrene foam. Due to the manual working method, minimal differences arise, which are highlighted or concealed by the application of acrylic paint, mainly in black or white.

The viscosity, quantity and handling of the paint are constantly changed from object to object, while the connection to the origin always remains.
